Treatment of a Tick Bite

A tick bite can have unpleasant consequences, with Lyme disease being the most well-known example. Once a tick bite is detected (visible by the bump or the red circle), the tick should be removed immediately. This can prevent infection. A tick tweezer can be used to remove the tick. Make sure not to squish the tick. The tick should be removed entirely. After removing the tick, the area can be disinfected with alcohol. Do not use disinfectant to remove the tick, as this may cause the tick to regurgitate its stomach contents. The bacteria can then mix with the lymphatic and blood systems.

What to do after the bite?

If the tick is removed within 24 hours of the bite, you should monitor the skin around the bite for three months. If a red circle appears or you develop other symptoms, consult your doctor. If the tick has been on the skin for more than 24 hours, consult your doctor about whether treatment is necessary. The longer the tick remains on the skin, the greater the chance that pathogens are transmitted. Make a note of the date the tick was discovered on the skin. For proper treatment after removing the tick, visiting your doctor is recommended. He/she may prescribe a course of antibiotics. If the tick is not entirely removed, it is also advisable to visit the doctor.
