Is Lyme Disease Contagious?

Lyme disease is caused by a bacterial infection, but it cannot be transmitted through coughing, sneezing, or other cold symptoms, and therefore, it is not directly contagious. However, other ways have been found through which the disease can be transmitted. Based on this, Lyme disease should certainly not be labeled as non-contagious.

Pregnancy

Research has shown that the Lyme bacteria can be transmitted from mother to child if the mother became infected with the disease during pregnancy. Some scientific publications suggest that the chance of this happening is not high and it primarily occurs shortly after the mother's tick bite. The DNA of the Lyme bacteria has also been found in breast milk and tears, but it is not yet clear if infection can occur through these means as well.
